Washington Politics...

..The Ultimate Game of Jeopardy.

I've been musing over the President's recent press conference and the answer, Alex, is What is obfuscation?
Obama talked at length about the economy. In response to one question he very sternly insisted he'd inherited a trillion dollar deficit. He said it with a frown on his face, like it was a bad thing. No argument from me. I think it's a bad thing. Even as I say that I'm practicing the Obama scowl in front of my mirror. Very effective, that scowl.

Here's the thing-Obama was a sitting senator when that bailout money was voted. More, he was his party's presidential candidate and the titular head of his party. Very simply, if Obama hadn't wanted that bailout bill to pass, the Democrat controlled Congress would have voted it down, no doubt about it. Unless, that is, the answer to Presidential Candidates for 400 is, What is a puppet? Do you think Obama is a puppet? I don't. And if he's not a puppet, that trillion dollars Obama scowled about belongs to him as much as it does anyone. More, because he alone could push it forward or stop it.

Then it got interesting. A trillion dollar deficit is a bad thing, according to the scowl on the Presidential mug, but the remedy for it is to add another trillion and more to the deficit. Huh? Is one a green trillion and the other a red trillion? One is ice cream the other broccoli? If a trillion dollar deficit is a bad thing how can a two trillion dollar defict be a good thing?

As the answers continued Obama dismissed the Republicans not once, but twice, saying he wouldn't take economic advice from guys who doubled the national debt. Can't blame him for that. I wouldn't take their advice, either. Bums. Do you doubt it? I looked it up.

On October 1, 2000 (beginning of the budget year) the US national debt was 5.67 trillion dollars (and change). On October 1, 2008 the debt was 10.12 trillion dollars. That's an increase of 4.45 trillion dollars. Are you aghast? I'm aghast and I don't even know what the word means. Maybe it's aghost from Boston...
Anyhow... That's an abslolute horror. The guys who pretended to be fiscal conservatives spent money like drunk teenagers. How's that for family values? We oughta drag 'em out behind the barn and beat the crap out of 'em.

Then I looked at the CBO 2009 projection. Are you sitting down? Obama and the Democrats are going to add 2.3 trillion dollars to the debt in one year. I'm not kidding. That's more than half of the increase over the last eight years, all in one year! Criminy! Let's put teenagers in charge of the government and throw a keg party in the Capitol.

Change for 800....... The answer, Alex is, What will be left in my pocket?
